Cantharis is homeopathically derived from the Cantharid beetle and is an example of Homeopathy’s use of biodiverse matter. This remedy acts on the urinary tract and helps reduce burning sensation that accompany frequent or difficult urination. As with most homeopathic remedies, Cantharis is particularly effective when taken at the very onset of symptoms.

LATIN NAME:	Cantharis Vesicatoria; /can’-tha-ris/
COMMON NAME:	Beetle
SOURCE & HABITAT:	This shiny green beetle lives in the south of France, Spain and Italy and survives on ash, honeysuckle, privet and lilacs. Medicine is derived from the dry insect made into powder.
HISTORY:	The Cantharid beetle is the “Spanish Fly” recognized for its aphrodisiac properties. Dr. Hahnemann introduced Cantharis in his original works for its homeopathic action on the urinary tract.
